Hello everyone, I am new to this group. I have been researching chicken keeping for about a year and a half. I hope to get started in the spring of 26. Still deciding on a coop design for about 10 chickens. I have currently morphed into the alternative and functional medicine workspace after Naturopathic and Chiropractic careers. I did, however, 35 years ago, have an exotic bird store, raised many types of parrots and large birds, handfed chicks, farm work, etc.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Make sure you spend plenty of time in the coop and run forum reading pertinent threads and visit the coop articles pages and review the higher rated coop builds along with the associated comments. Most people first starting out with chickens violently underestimate the space and the ventilation they require. If you're over the age of 40 I strongly recommend a walk-in coop.

Welcome to BYC. I agree with @DobieLover
I have walk-in coops & one that is not. I love the walk-ins. They are easy to clean and they make catching birds so much easier. Sooner or later we all need to check our birds over for lice, mites, illness, or injury. Lifting them off the roost late in the evenings is less stressful for them and us.
I also suggest a secure, covered run. It will be beneficial when predators are around, it gives the birds a dry place to hang out and eat when the weather is bad, and it is needed when you aren't home with them.
