New to BYC!

Hey y'all! We're new to the website but definitely not new to chickens. We've had chickens for over 3 years now. Farm animals are our drug of choice - having a few chickens led us down the road to turkeys, pigs, a goat and even cows. We currently have 25 chickens, 1 turkey, 8 pigs, 1 goat, 4 cows as well as a dog, a cat and 4 fish. Whew...

We are raising all of our animals hormone and unnecessary antibiotic free.

Our chickens are a menagrie of breeds. We have Barnevelder, Americuana, Sex link and Barred Rocks. Our daily egg collection is pretty much a rainbow of colors. Our boys love helping collect eggs because our girls never lay eggs in the same place everyday. It's a Easter egg hunt all year round!

I've always wanted turkeys, but I don't have the land. How do you like your turkey?

We started with 3 guinea fowl to control ticks for our dogs and cats. . . . hundreds of guineas later, we now have banty cochins, silkies, and a couple banty BBReds just for fun, geese, ducks, turkey, and 1 chukar. In the past we've had goats, peafowl, and ring-necked doves.

I volunteer at Walden's Puddle Wildlife Rehab Center in Joelton. I brought home a rescued adult chukar about a month ago. While he gets along with the chickens the guineas have not yet accepted him. I'd like to get a few more chukar to keep him company. Any suggestions?

I hope I can meet up with other Mid TN members when you have your get-togethers.
