Hi,

I am new to BYC - don't have my own chickens yet. Waiting to order them in the spring. Trying to get as much information as possible so I know what I'm in for :) My neighbors have 6 chickens that I enjoy checking on and giving treats to. Can't wait to have my own flock to spoil :)

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Definitely wait to order until your over night temps are no longer below freezing. Chicks can die easily on the road from cold exposure. So you are better off waiting.

Stop by our learning center too. Michael has left you with the link. Lots of great articles on all the aspects of keeping your new birds.

Enjoy this new journey you are on and welcome to our flock!

Yeah I have to wait until the local feed stores are taking orders. I can only have up to 6 chickens because of the city ordinance. The hatcheries I have found online require a minimum order of 15. I think in April or May they will have some. I wish I could get them as early as March...
