Hello,
I had 9 hens. I noticed one very lethargic and having trouble keeping up with the other girls while running across yard. I set her aside and tried getting her to eat and drink and no luck. I gave electrolytes via dropper and she slept in the coop. Next day she was not walking and all day she slept. I would wake her to give electrolytes. She passed that night.

The following morning (yesterday) I noticed another chicken did not come running for the morning treats. I've been watching her yesterday and today and this is what I see: diarrhea, not eating, lethargic, drinking water.

Any clues as to what could be going on with my flock? I'm utterly confused. They are 19 weeks old. Not laying yet. I have Terra Vet and electrolytes in the water now. I cannot seem to coax this one to eat either. Any tips on that would be appreciated.

When I try to isolate her she is very stressed out and wants to get back to the flock.

Thanks in advance.

Coccidiosis might be the problem. Symptoms include not eating, weakness, lethargic or sleepy behavior, hunched or puffed up posture, and diarrhea or blood in poop. Corid or amprollium is the treatment in the water for 5 days. Dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid Corid, or 1 1/2 tsp of the powder per gallon of water, changed daily. If a vet is availble and will look at some fresh droppings, they can usually spot cocci in large quantities, as well as worms. Also look for dehdyration due to heat, bullying away from food and water, and lameness.

Thanks for the reply. @EggcessiveSadly I had to have her put down as she continued to decline. Getting a necropsy done to get some answers as to what is going on and hope to protect the rest of flock.
