I had two brother cockerels who were fine together until one day - I guess the subordinate decided it was time to see who was boss. It ended up with a fatality I'm afraid to say. They were only 3.5 months old and as yours are older I hope it will be less likely.

Over-mating your hens will cause them great distress and possible physical harm so I would keep an eye on their welfare and be prepared to do the needful.

If by "the needful" you mean, "get more hens" I'm on it ! maybe. My sick rooster right now is sucking the life out of me, I'm so worried about him. But that's for another thread. I'm sorry about your loss, I realize I've been very lucky.

If I had a choice I would always plump for more chickens - story of my life.
