New To Chickens; Greetings from KC, MO

Just some hard learned advice... DOn't expect your dogs to resist the temptation of killing a chicken. That is WAY too much to hope for. If you want to range the dogs with the chickens, I propose a great deal of training and work with your dogs until they learn that mom is NOT ok with the chicken being eaten. I had some of the best dogs who were all to happy to kill my chickens when the desire arose. I also had some typically aggressive breeds that were absolutely GREAT with my chickens.

Yeah, I've got an Aussie/Heeler mix who loves chasing birds out of the yard, and a Chow/Basenji who is my varmint killer (2 squirrels, 2 moles, 1 muskrat, 1 bird, and countless mice). My expectations are not very high, but one can always hope, right?

Thanks sk acres! I'm actually AZ born and raised. Transplanted to MO via TX about 3 years ago.
