Hi,
Just purchased this pullet with 3 other chickens 9 days ago. All have been fine and made it through our 3 day heat wave of last week with no problems. All came from the same source.
Noticed that someone had water diarrhea yesterday. Looks like water with bits of fecal matter in it. Not foamy or frothy or bloody or wormy. [Yes, I've been looking at the "Poop Pictures"!] Found more on the poop board this morning and see that one has wet looking tail feathers so she has to be the one with the problem. Everyone else has great-looking poop - and lots of it!
They're all getting the same feed - layer crumbles - with a little oatmeal/cracked corn scratch. I have been giving them treats - cooked potato, peas, bits of lean meat. They are in a chicken tractor and have access to grass, clover, and weeds that they're loving. This particular girl has been eating well and LOVES the treats as well as the grasses and weeds. Not sure they were getting either in their prior location.
I have noticed that all of them are water guzzlers. We had a heat wave last week - 3 days of mid-90's - but the last few days have been downright cool with mid 50's in the morning and mid 80's in the afternoon. I keep regular water as well as ACV spiked water. They seem to prefer the ACV water.
She looks good, bright eyes, bright comb. She acts fine, scratching and taking dust baths. I just want to find a way to resolve the diarrhea before the heatwave of this weekend pushes through. Don't want a dehydrated chicken.
Any suggestions/thoughts/advice? Thanks in advance!
