(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, new to chickens here. We got our first chickens about 7-8 weeks ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 9 chickens total - 6 are about 8 weeks old and 3 are about 7 weeks old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 3 buff orpingtons, 3 rock barred, and 3 ameraucana (although after doing some research, they are likely not actually ameraucana
).
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
It's been so fun to watch our chickens grow up from little chicks and learning each of their personalities. I'm looking forward to the eggs!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I started gardening last year, and really enjoy that. I also play tennis, do crossfit, and like reading.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My boyfriend and I bought a house on 4 acres together in 2020. We have two cats - Orion and Trixie. I work as an engineer at large industrial automation company.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC through the reddit BYC and didn't realize this separate forum existed until someone posted a link. I figured, why not get info directly from the source! My boyfriend grew up raising chickens, so I've gotten most of my info from him, but it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion on things
