NEW TO CHICKENS HELP NEEDED WITH LOTS OF BIG DECISIONS!!

Meyer Hatchery in Ohio has plenty of different varietys of chicks for sale but you must buy 15 or more. They wont ship them to your post office unless 15 or more chicks

Welcome to BYC..

The 15 bird thing is actually a post Office rule, for this time of year, I believe.

Which is why buying from a local breeder can save you money, by buying less birds and no postage and many times getting better stock.

I dont know anyone who has the breed I want :( Thanks though!

This is kind of faulty thinking. I really don't think you know every person in say a 30 mile radius that keeps chickens. You don't know who has what around you until you put out feelers. Try a wanted ad on CL or FB, or at the feed store.

Within 30 miles of my home, I have seen folks with pure Ameraucana, Marans, Swedish flower hens, Icelandics, Silkies, a variety of fancy Orpingtons (laced, jubilee, etc), Crested cream Legbars, Ayam Cemani......the list goes on and on. Granted, you may not have quite that variety, but until you put out some wanted ads, you'll never know who might turn up in your backyard.

A great local Feed and Grain of Waianae, HI. 808-668-1524 Has Road Island Red Chicks arriving at the end of January. I've got some on order already.

I wonder if that is VJP Poultry, that is where I got my 4 silkies. She is NPIP and show quality birds and said she was on this site xD

Destiny is in New Ulm area, I think VJP is in Forest Lake as I recall, Both have good birds from what I understand. I am not a silkie person myself. I see the birds at shows, but then go back to my real birds...

I'm loving my silkies from her already, they are almost 2 weeks old and super friendly, one splash, two buffs, and a white. I might be going back for a blue, black, and partridge though <.< just maybe.
