I'm new to chickens, I just started this past January with 6 hen and 3 roos, all adult. I can say I'm absessed, I'm up to 13 and 10 more on the way...How many are you starting with?

I started just about two years ago with the 25 pack of Rainbow Layers from McMurray. Ah, the ride has been fast and furious since then....

I haven't had chickens in about 5 years. I figured we could use up to 7 eggs a day for the 6 of us here, and if my young hens were only going to lay about half their potential in the winter, I'd need 14 hens. Added three more hens to account for up to 20% mortality, which puts me at 17 chicks right now. I do need a rooster also, and was hoping for some meat birds too. So I'm looking at buying a straight run of males soon too.

I started fixing my coop with the intention of getting 8 but now 2 weeks later I have 27 in the brooder.

But it's ok its a good obsession...I'm even thinking of getting a couple silkies soon.

I started with...pigeons...first outing there were like 20 brought home...then chickens...I think I came home with about 20....I refuse to count how many i have..the wife would use it against me

I started 2 years ago with 13...Then the next year I was just gonna get 5 EEs and ended up adding 15. This year I have 5 ordered....I will see what I come home with when they come in...I am a sucker for a sweet fuzzy butt.
