Hello. I just moved to Yuba city and I now live where feral chickens roam the neighborhood. I instantly liked them. Never knew how smart they are.
So I decided to buy some feed and throw it out once in awhile to a few I liked. Now I have over 30 on my lawn daily.
Few weeks ago one of the mom's had a hurt baby. Couldn't walk. I just couldn't leave it out there. The hawks are vicious over here and they take 70-80% of the babies. I built a little box and after 4 days was asking to go home. I released it, mom took it back and so far the nugget has been fine.
We also found a nest that was empty in my back yard for over a week in the rain. I took the eggs and bought an incubator. Well 5 of the 7 took. Should be hatching by sat.
Im new to all this. I hope to keep a few and release the rest with the locals if possible. Any advice or help is appreciated.
