New to chickens...UPDATE!!! PIC HEAVY

That's looking real nice. One thing to consider if you ever relocate is to set on precast concrete piers so you don't have to dig it up every time you move. And welcome from another Hoosier.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

What do you mean by precast concrete piers? Just set it on top of the concrete? Wouldn't that make it prone to getting blown over? The next time I move it will hopefully be closer to you... I am looking to move somewhere around where you are...My wife's family is all in Terre Haute so moving in between my work and her family is the idea. They next move will be permanent, I want to buy a place with a couple to a few acres. So I will just be setting the poles in concrete then.

LOL - it won't blow over unless you get a tornado! And then you'll have other problems...

Trust me, it will be waaay too heavy to be blown over.

DZR-Shodan if you go back about a dozen posts you will find I posted a link to the Purina plans - just click on the word "here" in the sentence "You can find it here".

Yeah I can tell it will be heavy. I am building the walls and then putting them up on the floor I built. Just one of the walls (especially) the front wall 5ft tall/6 ft long was really heavy. I hope I can move it when I leave....I don't think my landlords will appreciate an addition to the property permanetly. LOL:lau

I had to get a bunch of teenagers (eight!) from church to help me move mine. I would never have been able to do it otherwise.

There's lots of cheap land out this way last I looked. I like the location also. We're still in the country but within an hours drive to Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Bloomington, and Lafayette.

If you click on my BYC page you can see what the piers are. They are notched out for the 4x4's. I put mine on piers in case I ever want to move it but it's too heavy to realistically move anywhere. I've lived here all my life and never seen a wind strong enough to pick a structure that big out of the piers. I suppose it's possible but if wind hits that hard it's likely to knock the whole thing down anyways.

OK! I know what you are talking about now...the 4x4 decking blocks...I have seen those at the hardware store. Yeah those would be a good thing to place a coop on... I may have to do that when I move to my new place. Thanks for the tip.
BTW I love your coop. Is it finished now? I would love to see the completed project.

With the nasty weather we've had lately I haven't been able to work on my coop, I did get the feeder built. I am using 4"pvc pipe with a 90 degree curve in the middle. I bought a five foot piece and cut it in two sections, three feet and two feet. I got two caps. I then drilled five holes in the bottom section using a 2 1/4"hole saw bit. I hope it works!
