Hello! I am new to raising chickens, however I have other family members that have them and raise them. My husband is very allergic to dogs and cats, so our 2 kids will never have an indoor pet and our fish? Well, they are lame!! My niece allowed my kids to each choose a chick, which would be kept at their house...but running there every day became a hassle. After a few weeks (and wearing down their dad), the chicks came home!!

We have 4 chickens now. A Rhode Island Red, a silver-laced Wyandotte, a buff Orpington and an Americana. The Americana is the youngest of them all, she's only 4 weeks old. The others are 7-8 weeks.

Our kids live them!! Especially my daughter!! The chickens have helped to improve her attitude toward homework!! It's actually getting done without a battle!

I'm excited to be here and am hoping to learn a lot!!
