Hey guys! My boyfriend and I just got chickens for the first time:) we have 5 in total, all of them are laying hens. We have Eggness and Chevy, they are Americanio crosses , Penny and Ginger are Barred Rock crosses and finally Hotrod is a Road Island Red cross we’ve decided to join the form because I’ve used this website multiple times for advice so we wanted to join your group :)

Such a cute picture! Are you using a heat lamp in there? It adds some nice lighting to your photo! I don't think they need it anymore since they are already fairly full-grown. Only chicks need a heat source. They won't need heat unless it gets really cold, like way into the negatives. The risk for fire is pretty high, so as long as they are protected from precipitation and major drafts (you still want ventilation) they will be fine!

They look pretty happy, though! Congrats on your new flock! Welcome to BackYard Chickens.

Well that's fancy! It's nice of you to have a light in there for some evening reading for them! I'm glad they won't be a heat lamp casualty! Sorry for assuming anything, I just always err on the side of caution with them! Thanks for clarifying! ❤️💡
