Hello, New member from Butner NC. We got our new 4 baby chicks (hens) and 2 ducks 8 weeks ago. Had to separate them because the ducks were being mean! Didn't realize the work involved with caring for our new feathered friends. My wife Lynn and I have recently retired and love giving our chicks attention. We love watching them grow every day! We are thinking about adding a rooster soon. Any suggestions?

Nice to meet you. Yes, the ducks can be overwhelming with the chickens. Usually once they are grown, that are fine together. Ducks do need different drinking pans. Deep enough to submerge head. Your chicks currently may be at risk in drowning in such. Well now that i looked at them again, they are somewhat taller than day-old chicks.
Ask all th questions you may have. There is a whole community of knowledgeable peeps here to help you out here.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

Hello Larry and Lynn, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

It looks like you've purchased a prefab coupe. You're going to want to start thinking about building a much larger structure with a much larger run as they are not going to have enough space in there. I would also recommend housing the ducks separate from the chickens.

I have almost the very same recliner photo. Picked up some buff Brahmas at the local feed store a few years back. The box that everyone was in, was a bit chaotic. So I pulled one of the (mellow) Brahmas out of the box, sat down in my recliner and put her on a towel in my lap.

Next thing I know... the Brahma chick is working her way to my chest, and finally perches herself on my shoulder... and it looks like she was smiling. I'll try to find it on the SD card.
