I went to a friend and got 6, 2 week old buff brahma chicks. They are now 7 1/2 weeks and I want MORE! Got them for eggs but if they all turn out to be roos I will want to keep them anyway. We have had lots of days out in an pen in the yard, and 2 days outside without the pen, they love it!

Welcome to the flock. Too many roos will be fighting over hens. A rooster can handle 10 hens, less and some poor girls will get overbred. Will you have enough girls for them?

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Cute chick, they are fun at that age! X2 if you do wind up keeping multiple roosters and only a few hens you will need to get more hens or keep the boys separate for the safety of the girls. You might like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Welcome to BYC!

X3 on keeping too many roosters. Too much fighting and too much mating on the hens. 1 roo per 10 to 12 hens is the best ratio. If you have 2 roos that do get along, you can keep them both. But I wouldn't keep any more. At least not together and not with only a few hens.

Enjoy all your poultry adventures and welcome to our flock!
