Yup. When you start with four hens for eggs and get a roo, then a few chicks, then an incubator and a few dozen hatching eggs, and on and on.
Here's my chicken math (includes other birds).
4 hens given to me.
6 rescued hens.
4 hens.
1 rooster.
7 chicks.
3 more chicks
6 turkeys
42 hatching eggs for the new incubator
36 hatching eggs on order
____
105...and you wonder why my hubby calls me crazy

- the 4 given
- the 6 rescue
- 5 killed by dogs (not my dogs)
- 1 turkey
_____
89 birds if everything hatches (which they won't, so probably closer to 50)

so sad. one of our chicks died yesterday. we are really sad, my daughter took it the hardest. but on a happy note, i called our local store where i bought cedar shavings and they exchanged it for pine shavings. hopefully our chicks will be happy. since our baby girl past i exchanged it for a barred rock. so now we have 3 black sex links , 1 rhode island red and 1 barred rock. hopefully no more deaths or sick chickens. i think they like pine better too ( but it could be just me :) )
