So I'm a first time duck owner (never had chickens either). I have a straight run pekin from TSC that's about 5 weeks old & a male that we got from a chicken swap, we were told he was a Blue Cayuga but when I googled pictures he looks like a Swedish Blue to me. Thoughts?

Also, we're looking to start on their duck coop this weekend. Currently they're living in a plastic bin in my closet at night and out in a dog pen during the day (when the weather's nice). We have a small pond that we'd like to let them have access to during the day but would set up a nice duck coop they could sleep in/stay in when the weather is bad. We're in south Louisiana so I don't think they'll have a hard time in the winter but I definitely want them happy/healthy. Looking for suggestions/must have's for the duck coop. The pond is in the middle of an open field (the pond itself has some cover though), so I need an easy-ish way to put them up at night. Also looking for something low maintenance, cleaning wise (I have 15 horses that take up most of my day so easier the better)

I do have a border collie in herding classes who can help me put away the ducks if need be. I'm sure my herding instructor can help me train him accordingly with getting the ducks off of the pond etc.

Thanks so much!!

People are going to have different ideas about the perfect duck coop and I prefer a A-frame coop with half of it wire and open and the other half metal and closed( the size is up to you) This is easy to clean and I like the one of the wire sides to be a door and open the whole side which makes it easy to clean and put the ducks up at night. I'm not good at figuring out breeds based on the ducklings though so I can't help you there but I will say that duckling's a cutie!

ducking is a Blue Swedish

House - we made a house using fence boards. Walls were fence boards, floor was left over trex decking and we put on a roof as well. I hose it out daily.

Blue swedish :)

I used to breed them actually! Haha. but I sold my flock a few years ago to give my ancona calls more space. WORTH IT!

I know Holderreads still breeds and sells them. Not sure of any private breeders as the two women I had talked to when I was breeding them also sold their flocks
