Hi my name is Holly, Im new to ducks and was curious on a few things and wanted some opinions. I ended up adopting some ducks. First it was two Campbell's and now I adopted 5 Pekin/Rouen mix. The campbells are 5 months and the pekin/Rouens are 2 months. Im thinking I have way more drakes than hens and I don't really want to get rid of them. I was wondering if I housed the hens separately, would the drakes be ok or will there be fights? I know their fights are not as aggressive as roosters but I still don't want it to be constant. And will they only fight during mating season? My goal is to find the simplest way to have a good environment for them without rehoming any and not having babies. I definitely would love to have eggs though!

Do you have any photos of them?

Also you could separate them by genders, I'm not to sure if the drakes will fight in breeding season as it depends on their relationships and pecking order with each other, but I think as long as they aren't with the ducks they shouldn't fight.

I’m hoping they don’t fight if I keep the hens separate. One person said she separated them and hasn’t had any problems so fingers crossed! . They’re just babies still. But the male Rouen drakes are starting to get a white ring around their necks!

They are so cute ,
Do you have two coops and separate play areas? You could try to sell the drakes ....are you planning on hatching eggs?

I have no drakes so I have zero experience with them ....

I have three khaki Campbell’s and 3 pekins hens both around 5 months

I really don’t know much but your khaki Campbell’s look like drakes with that dark head and curly tail ???

They may fight, could you get more females? I'd recommend 3 or four females per male, that seems to stop mine from fighting. Good luck with them!

Im thinking of looking into more females. I’m just worried I’ll end up with more males if I take on anymore ducklings haha. One Campbell was suppose to be female and according to the people I got the 5 2 month old ducks, there’s 3 males and 2 females! I occasionally look at Facebook marketplace for more Hens. Maybe next year!

Yeah I was told one of the campbells was female... I don’t think so anymore lol Its no longer Walter and Minnie but Walter and Mickey lol..Currently I do not have separate play areas. I think I might make another coop, then maybe next year another separate area

Here’s the coop now:

No I dont plan on hatching anything.

That’s a really nice set up , how do you drain the pond? I have to scoop my kiddie pool out with buckets ..I have to do it tonight :(

Just don’t get so many that you are overwhelmed, trying to sell a few drakes is not so bad many people have ducks and if you want eggs like me your feeding 4 or 5 for one egg !

Good luck with all your choices, I don’t free range my birds either , it’s a choice we made and I’m ok with it

They are very beautiful ducks. The two Khaki Campbell's are definitely drakes as for the pekin I'm not that sure but I feel like it may be a drake as for the Rouens I think 2 or 3 may be drakes, I'm not that sure so I could definitely be wrong.

Do you think you could record a video of them quacking and upload it on YouTube and send the link?
