NEW TO DUCKS

Got home from work and saw my first pip from our ducks. The countdown is at 4 days. Should I got ahead and turn off the auto-turner and take the humidity up to 75%? Current settings is 99.5F 53%.View attachment 2026453

oh my goodness. Did this one hatch yet? Definitely unplug the turner. If the day count is correct, then I suspect your temperature is a bit high. They should hatch that early. Or the day count is wrong. OR... is it possible that a hen jump-started incubation first?

And be sure to keep the water wells full now to keep the humidity up.

Any other pips?

I personally do not leave the ducklings in my incubator that long. Once they are completely out of their shells, have rested a bit and are moving all around inside the incubator I take them out and put them in their brooder. I put a mirror in the brooder too mostly for the first one so it doesn't get lonely. They actually really like it!

Ok, so it looks like we are getting a few hatching when I take them out and put them in the brooder, do I also take out the shells? Do I just discard the shells?
