New to forum, but need help with duckling who came too soon

Well, daughter did try to leave him with momma, but she's a little too rough as a preemie. Daughter did go out a few times with Prince and momma wants to take care of him. When momma walks and quacks he tries to get up and follow, but is just too weak yet. He still cannot hold his neck up and keep his eyes open. He does quack and open his eyes a tiny bit when the other ducks call.

Want to hear something funny though, I just found out that when momma stole eggs from one of the harlequin ducks, one was also fertile. Daughter says the slope is showing between 1-2 weeks out. Prince was supposed to hatch within these next a few days, but this little one is almost two weeks out.

Is 6 - 8wks, or more, best for determining the sex? We tried with our Harli twins, but we were wrong. They both laid eggs. Lol

I wish we had enough land for more harlis since they are a rare breed. I also found out that muscovy is the only duck not to have mallard in them.

Do you think she could try to get Prince stronger? do you have a nutrient feed? If not maybe very small.bugs?

I'm going tomorrow to get feed and brewers yeast.

I just checked on him since daughter is overnight stocker at local grocery store. He's doing very well actually. He is standing tall with a little wobble, eyes partially open, very vocal, and drinks the water nicely. Only problem I had was he was wound up, so I had to be a momma duck and rest my hand on him. He's so tiny that my hand fits over him. Teehee Well, I lifted my hand to go back inside and he stood up and was peeping again. Oy! Laid my hand over him again and he calmed down. Held it for a few, lifted it, and he did it again. Lol So I wrapped him in the blanket and he calmed down and tucked his head in. Yay, gma duck! Teehee

Thanks to you all for the well wishes. I think we will be fine. I'm looking forward to watching Prince and momma interact tomorrow. :thumbsup I will definitely keep you all up to date on his progress.
