So maybe I should've researched before I said its your bday money. But I didn't and now we have a supposed african gosling. We bought game starter and I am trying to keep it in the brooder but it only stops crying if Bub is holding it. (He named it Howard) it has a small dish of water. And grass to eat. How are we doing? Any suggestions? When will we know the sex? He has a little buddy bantam but so far prefers humans to anything else.

He needs another goose to live with. He's crying b/c he's lonely. You should never have just one gosling/chick/whatever. Otherwise sounds like you're doing fine.

Well Bub wanted chickens to start with and had a banty picked out already when he saw Howard. So he does have little Jake which thrills jake he snuggles under Howard's wing. But Howard just wants us. Its kind of cute.

How old is your gosling and what do you have it in to brood it? What is the temperature where you are keeping the gosling? Is it eating okay? Honestly I would think Jake would be company for him. I'm asking this because I have four goslings who are now between 5-6 weeks old. At 3 weeks one of the goslings began "crying" and pacing back and forth in his brooder pen. He too would stop when we picked him up and held him so I just figured he wanted human attention. I noticed after a couple days that he didn't appear to be eating his food so I took him to the vet. It ended out he had infection and I had to give him antibiotic injections for a week. He's fine now and the crying stopped and he went back to his old self. The chances of yours being sick is probably slim to none but I just wanted to let you know, just in case, since I would have never dreamed that the crying and stopping when being held was a symtom of him being ill. hey just thought i'd mention that some people feel that twisted wings or "angel wings" are attributed to feeding goslings game starter which has a much higher protein percentage than chick starter, during the first few weeks of life. I've never had any problems with it but have seen several geese with the disorder. i feed chick starter first.

I have no idea how old Howard is. He was delivered Friday afternoon, does that help any? And he is eating ecspecially if bub is holding it or if we float grass when he takes his little dips in the sink. Also found out that Jake is a Jackie most likely and an OEG. Howard does quit crying if left alone for about 30 minutes but if he sees any of us starts up again. But thank you for the warning. Can geese have electalite(sp) water?
