Rural Louisiana
Hello all. I have been reading many posts from your forum for months, so I decided it was time to join the fun! My husband, two children and I live on twenty acres in a rural area of central Louisiana. I still work full-time, but my husband is retired. We raise Nigerian Dwarf milk goats, and I make cheese and soap from the goat milk.

We have always kept "just a few chickens" to provide us with tasty yard eggs (and years ago my now-grown daughters exhibited chickens, mostly for 4H). Recently we decided to add to our chicken population with pure breeds. Mainly our interest is in eggs, and we are fascinated with the colored-egg layers! We purchased a couple of Marans and Ameraucanas, and have Penedesenca, Salmon Faverolle and Light Brown Leghorn chicks ordered and on their way to us soon.

So glad to be joining your site...very intertaining and informative!

Hello and welcome to BYC

I'm planning on getting some goats for milk as well. The cheese is amazing and I hear goat's milk soap is divine. Enjoy your chickens!

Hello James Hill, Greetings from Kentucky! It sounds like you have a beautiful flock of chickens! Goats too! Do you sell your cheese & goat milk soap? I've actually never tried goat cheese. Don't forget to check out the Other Pets and Livestock section right here at BYC as well! Here is the link:

Also if you have not already check out http://www.backyardherds.com/forum/ It's a sister site to backyard Chickens.

Welcome aboard!
