Hello -
I am new to layers but not to chickens. Now living in town where the max. number of chickens is 10 and no roos allowed. I have found your FB postings very helpful My chicks are now 11 weeks old with 1 Sapphire Gem, 1 Prairie Bluebell, 3 RIR, 2 Amberlinks, and 2 Black Sex links. I have a chance to get a Blue laced Wyandotte, a Polish and/or a Buff Orpington in a week - if I can ID the roos in my coop.

Can you help me with the never ending question....hen or roo? These 2 are 11 weeks old. #1 is Sapphire Gem and she runs the coop. #2 is Prairie Bluebell and is the timid one. I cannot keep any roos. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

At 11 weeks old... I say you've got two pullets there. An 11 week old cockerel is going to be MUCH redder than that with larger comb and wattles and at least a hint of pointed saddle feathers. I see nothing along those lines with either bird pictured.
