We purchased 12 laying hens. First eight are RIR /Red star. We got them last Sunday, 4 of the eight hens laid an egg later that afternoon. We then added 2 Buff & 2 Barred Rock later that day. Monday there was 2 eggs. Today only one egg. Does anyone know if the move to a new place or the fact that new hens were introduced is affecting their laying? How long should I give them before becoming concerned for their health?

Change, particularly a relocation, brings on stress and will affect laying. Then with the addition of new flock members there was more stress. The different batches of birds perhaps should have been quarantined but what's done is done. Chances are all is okay and in a few days when they settle in and laying will resume. Best of luck to you!!

the eggs they laid the day you got them were "in the works," before hand. Then the move but them off. They should be bouncing back with eggs when they feel secure in their new home.
