Hi everyone...I am new to raising quail and at this point I just have 3 babies...week and half old chicks in the brooder. It started out as just the experience of hatching...something I have always wanted to do.... but now I am doing some research and would like to keep a small flock of quail for the eggs. I have a friend who was to take the chicks to her farm so if she still wants these I will give them to her when they are ready and I will hatch again for my own.

I have been trying to find some easy building plans for a small cage but have been unsuccessful. I wouldn't mind just buying a cage also but can't seem to find one that would suit my needs. Any ideas from all you experienced quailers?

Thanks,
Laurie

rabbit hutches are great and so are hanging cages to name a few

Be creative anything you can imagine they can do well in. They dont perch so everythings got to be considered from a ground stand point (ground as in floor of pen) so that gives you options if space is an issue you dont have to make it tall.

They do best when their poo can fall through their pens so wired floors are the best. They do very well on them. Ofcourse it's nice ot have an area they can go thats not all wired but they will make a mess there.

I use all-wire rabbit cages for quail - I have 1/2" x 1" wire on the bottom and 1"x2" on the top and sides. I buy my wire from www.klubertanz.com or 1-800-237-3899 - they have the best selection of heavy-duty cage wire and are very reasonably priced. Our local stores only carry lightweight hardware cloth or fencing and I don't trust those to stand up against determined predators.
