So I just impulsivly bought 12 quails yesterday, I know nothing about them but have been trying to do some research. I have something I'm planning on fixing up to use as a pen. If anyone has any advice, recommendations, I would appreciate any info

What species are they? I would assume japanese quails.

Do you know whether they are males or females?

Do you have good feed for them?

Are they young or are they adults?

Sorry, I'm just asking lots of questions to figure out what you need advice for :)

I got them from tractor supply, I'm not sure what the breed is I'd have to call and check. They are young, probably less than a week, they just got them in yesterday, and they were straight run. They gave me a poultry starter crumble that I crumbled a little more

Hi,
with all quail make sure the chick starter has at least 30% protein within the feed. Quails are not like chickens, they are game birds. All game birds require a high protein diet. I've heard of people grinding up cat food in addition to the chick starter to supply enough protein, although I personally have never done this before. I feed them this chick starter "
PURINA GAMEBIRD STARTER FEED 30% PROTEIN CHICK GUINEA TURKEY QUAIL CHUKAR" honestly its probably the best chick starter for quails in the market. Good luck to you new quails!

Post pictures and we can confirm species. Turkey starter or game bird feed for 8 weeks then regular chicken feed. They will enjoy greens.

You won't be able to tell sex until about 6 weeks. Figure 1 male for 2-6 female. Make a plan on what to do with excess males. They are delicious or plan on getting more coops and more girls.

Search the site and most of your questions should be answered. If not, ask something specific.

I got them from tractor supply, of course they don't know what breed it is. I don't think they really know much of what they are doing. When I went back they had a bunch of dead ones in with them and I don't think the feed they gave me has enough protein. Can I add something to it for more protein or do I just need to get something else? It's a crumbled chick starter and it's 24% protein

I’m guessing they are coturnix quail, great beginner breed.

24% should work - is it for Turkeys or chickens? I use Purina Turkey starter & Game Bird feed with 30% for 8 weeks for max grow out. I recommend saving the 24% & getting a bag of Turkey starter. The chicken feed is low in lysine for coturnix. Do add Nutridrench or Rooster Booster (Tractor supply has this one) to the water. They do need the vitamins. I’m worried about the store birds not getting enough.

Are these pets or dinner?

my hatch this morning.
