New to raising chickens

Love Magdalena! Nice and quiet...isolated. The Gila mountains are gorgeous as well. New Mexico...the Land of Enchantment for sure!!

I would suspect that your hens are molting, which is common in 12-14 month old chickens, and each year thereafter. Or it could be mites/lice. I'd check for small moving black or yellow things on their skin and feathers, and treat if you see any.

Welcome to BYC. If one bird has missing, broken feathers and the other is in good condition - I am betting that the one is feather picking the other.

Well thank you for the welcome you all. I am from texas so we say yall. Lol. I will be posting some pics of my coop n run soon. I have picked up alot of info and ideas from byc. I catch myself looking at this site more than my fishing sites. Lol

I read an article on chickens molting and one member mentioned to treat the chickens to some BOSS. What is BOSS? That way i can get some or what is it comprable to? Thanks marc
