I keep a small flock of 9, 7 different breeds because there are so many great breeds. Consider your climate as well, space and egg production expectations...

Yes. Your rat terrier will be a problem with the chickens! I can't let mine near them. He is so over the top excited about the sounds they make and he is the killer of small critters. I wouldn't take the chance of I were you.
