welcome to BYC! I have a flock made of mixed birds, by which I mean not all are layers. I have a rooster, some old birds that have "aged out" of the laying business, layers of course, and young birds not laying yet (soon, though!). So I feed a formula called "all-flock." Layer feed has too much calcium for the non-layers and over time can cause health problems. It's also good for when my girls go into molt and stop laying for a time, or during winter when the days are too short for them to lay.
My flock free ranges a couple hours a day. The greens and bugs they get are a nice little supplement and treat for them, but I wouldn't expect it to sustain them exclusively.
