Hello and welcome from SC!!

Wow...sorry to hear of your loss. 30 chickens to neighbor dogs is sad and tragic. We just had a similar situation a month ago.

I wish I lived closer. We have 2 or 3 cockerels that would love to have new homes. I love having the roosters, and have 3 good ones right now. they just can't help against dog attacks, But great for hawk alerts etc.

I hope you can find replacements for your flock. Chickens are great therapy

I'm so sorry to hear of your tragedy. I too wish i was closer so i could help you out. I do agree that chickens are great therapy. They are my relief from many a stressful day. I find them endlessly entertaining. Please keep us all posted on your incubation efforts. We are all praying for your success.

I've got about 60 eggs in the incubator I'll be sastified if I get 5 out of it but hoping for more I have one late egg to place in there too while feeding what's left of my hens I looked inside and found a lone egg I have it warming up to room temp butt up will put it in later today marking it late so I know not to toss it when the time is up

If you candle your eggs like day 8, and know what to look for then you will know which are developing. Read threads on that and there will be pictures of what to expect. Wishing you best with your hatch. I just think you will be OVER RUN with chicks..

I'm planing on candleing them on day 10 that way I'm sure of if they are developing or if I have to toss all away and try again if I'm lucky and have a large hatch I'll be happy for sure and already have a brood coop set up from last year and a small run about 20x 20 ft Sown with grass seed that should hold them until they get large enough to go into the big run and coop with the others. I was building it for some bantams but they can wait egg producers and meat birds are more important now. My problem is i lost all my roosters except one it's a bantam can't recover anymore eggs until I find a large Rooster. So it's this brood or back to the drawing board

Hey all my name is Tim Hull I started raising chickens last spring after getting some biddies from Tractor supply. Not having chickens for years I couldn't pass up the opportunity of getting 60 biddies for 40 bucks so after a while I had about 40 full sized birds this last fall 5 roosters and 35 hens all was great then started getting eggs bunches 20+ a day. But about two weeks ago we had an issue with my hen house and I lost almost 30 birds (neibours dogs). Of course I was devastated no fresh eggs dead birds everywhere and animal control not giving a dang about looking for the dogs that did it.
So here I am in trouble no roosters left, and I had 3 great big ones that were over 14lbs! So knowing I can't recoup the funds to buy more birds or biddies from hatcheries. I'm on disability and the birds have become my self preservation project. So all I could do is look at what I could do with very little funds namely feed money and some I had from selling eggs about 100 dollars. So with about 14 eggs that wasn't put in the fridge I ordered an incubator. Well it came in yesterday. It's set up and running with a bunch of eggs that I saved from the dreaded fridge. All are over two weeks old. My sitting hen (her first sitting gave me 2 biddies) was one of the ones that got it. Knowing that with the terror the birds I had left wouldn't even try to sit. I have never used an incubator before so all this is new. But I'm hoping that you experts on here might help out me and my delema. By any advice you can give me. My first question is can you incubate refrigerated eggs that are over two weeks? If so I can fill the rest of the incubator tomorrow on the second level and better my chances on getting my flock back. Please help

Sorry about your birds. You have been given excellent advice. I have pulled eggs from the refrigerator and all but one have hatched so hopefully yours will too.
One thing I did think of, as others have stated see if you can find anyone near you from BYC or see if your local feed store will allow you to put up a sign or check with your local 4-H if any kids have a chicken project going and see if you can find a rooster. Often people are willing to give an extra to a good home and you have the advantage of finding out about its temperament and you wouldn't have to wait for a baby peep to grow up before you could raise more.
Good luck.

I'm on the hunt as we speak I just hate it that my big rooster got it I don't think I have seen one that big before he weighed over 14 lbs he was as big as a medium turkey and not a true breed so I have no idea as what to look for now I'm hoping that one of the huge eggs are from him I know it was from one of the hens that looked a lot like him. I still have one of the hens left so I have a small chance in getting one his size and her eggs made a jumbo egg from the store look like a size smaller. I have 2 in the he incubator now they are almost too big for the turner they are about as big as a goose egg
