New to the community...

I've never hatched/incubated eggs but, I think you would be better off have two incubators- one for chicks, one for ducks. I would think ducks need different temps. & humidity levels than chicks require. As well as different brooders because ducks love to play and make a watery mess, chicks would be chilled and may get ill from such exposure. Ducks also grow much faster than chicks, even though they are about 28 days till hatch, and chickens about 21.

I'm feeling a little faint reading how many chicks you'll have at once. but then, I'm a true backyard hobby type. The best advice I can give you for free-range chicks is to build a V trap for the chicks. Some of them don't behave very well about going back in or you may need to wrangle one. It's literally just some fencing shaped like a V with one side along a building or fence line. They usually fall for it every time when you herd them in.
Best of luck!

Hello! Welcome to BYC!! :frow

If you have any interest, and have photos and plans/details of the coop you've built (or are going to build), there is a coop article contest going on right now! Here is a link:

I strongly suggest that you build a run in addition to the coop. Whether they have to be confined due to weather or predators, you'll be glad to have it!

Feel free to check out the links below for some interesting reading. Good luck on your adventures!
