Got chickens for the 1st time in the fall. They are grown and laying now. We have 6 hens, 2 Brama's, 2 Prarie Blue Eggers and 2 Red Link Sextons?. My son has wanted chickens for over 3 years, but we had a large dog at the time who became curious about neighbors chickens. Long story short he got out one time and when and we found him he had gotten into a neighbors coop and badly injured one of their hens. We felt terrible. So we knew after we repaid them for their hen that we couldn't have chickens until we no longer had him. After he passed away from cancer we prepared for chickens. We occasionally let them free range in our yard, since it is not fenced in yet we let them out when we are in the yard. Most yards in the area are fenced and those with dogs have fenced yards. We love their personalities and their semi-social behavior. They are curious and love to be where we are. My husband found your group as we educated ourselves about raising chickens. I like your group for the questions asked and how the group helps each other with answers.
