Hey everyone my name is Kara, I live in Colorado. I have an amazing husband two beautiful girls, two pet rats, and we are now going to be introducing 6 hens to our family TODAY! Yay
I have never raised chickens before or any backyard animal. But I have always dreamed of it all. Our house won’t allow any other farm animals but 6 hens. For the past week I have been working hard in building them a mansion of a coop(something I have never done before either so that’s a learning experience too)
We are getting silkies, Orpingtons, flavorelle, amercaunas...(I think it’s what they are called) lol forgive me if I’m wrong. I am seriously so new at this!
I want to get chickens of course for the bonus of getting fresh eggs but also for my girls. I have a almost 5 year old and a 2 year old. And I always said that kids that are raised in a farm(which I’m no where close to a farm but chickens are a good start) the kids just seem to respect life a little more. I grew up in city life California, and now a days everything is so fast passed and the kids being raised lately seems that they expect their parents to do everything for them with so regard or respect for things around them. I want to slow down my kids life and teach them to appreciate life and the hard work that goes in to raising a life.
Some of my other hobbies.....I’m a DIY-er. Cooking is my passion and eating is my hobby. And I have recently been finding a joy for building. Building this coop has given me even more of a love for this new. I’m a in home care nurse and take care of my disabled mother so it’s kind of like being a stay at home mom so my kids and family are my main hobby.
Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I found it while searching information on raising buckets. This one has seemed to pop up a lot whenever I searched so I decided to join. I don’t know what I’m doing so being surrounded my a virtual community to make sure I’m doing it right seems like the nextstep
