Hi everyone,

I found BYC while doing my breed research, and love it! I am a newbie in the truest sense of the word. This is my first flock ever. So it will be a learning experience for me. I bought 3 Rhodebar, 3 "brown egg layers" as the store had them labeled, and a silkie. I asked the clerks what breed the layers were.....only to find out they were a mix and not sure of type. I've had them for about 2 weeks. Cool how each have very distinct personalities. Going to be a fun summer watching them grow up. I am sure I will ask a ton of questions so thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to BYC! Great place to do research. Chickens are a lot of fun.

I wonder if your "brown egg layers" are Red Sex Link (RSL) hens? That's just a common variety, and not a pure breed. Some of the best layers usually.

Well that's good to hear about good layers... Eggs were the main focus when we decided to get chicks. Wasn't planning them as a "pet". But I am hooked haha

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Aren't chicken personalties just fantastic!? I'm glad you are enjoying your flock! That one chick is adorable! Does she/he have a name?
