Since moving to a rural area and acquiring 5 acres, I "rescued" 6 hens from a family that wanted to get rid of them.
I know nothing about raising chickens. So far I've spent quite a sum and have not gotten one egg from these six ladies. I've had them since mid-September 2017.
As best I can tell by appearance, I have three Plymouth Rock hens, one silkie and two Rhode Island Reds.
A recent Google search lead me to your site.
I hope to fill my new property with rescued animals of all types. I enjoy gardening, worm composting, composting, training dogs, weaving, spinning wool, quilting, baking, reading, classic movies and so much more.
I'm an Oma to one grandson, mother to three adult children. I live in the east bay of the San Francisco bay area.

G’Day from down under Randi :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
