New to the site. Hi everyone!!

Do you know if your daughter may be allergic to chicken dander?
Hi So she has handled chickens a few times and with no allergic reactions. We are going to go to a farm here locally one more time to make sure. We have a friend who has chickens and she has spent quite a bit of time there and has handled them so i am sure she is fine but want to make sure. Thank you SO much for asking DrumstickDiva!:thumbsup

A must have for your poultry is a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/suggestions-for-a-first-aid-kit.1150128/)
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop.47774/) Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!

G’Day from down under Shannon :frow Welcome!

Grab a coffee or your drink of preference cos do I have some reading material for you! ;)

First up, you might be interested in downloading this free e-book My First Year With Chickens

This article may help you decide on a breed: Pickin a Chicken

I see that Pork Pie mentioned the Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. I think this one might be of particular interest:
Topic of the Week - Getting Started, Keeping Chickens and there are others that are great for research or newbies.

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive , you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!

HI i replied earlier but somehow i must have deleted my reply and it only posted your post again. Sorry. SO yes i will for sure make up a first aid kit that is a great idea! I have looked up common illnesses and ways to help prevent them as much as you can anyway. My husband is a natural carpenter and has made a few houses for our sulcata tortoises and for a chameleon my daughter had . We will be making a coop with everything they may possibly need. I don't want to do it wrong the first time. We live in Arizona and so i want to make sure that we do a good job to keep them health ,safe and cool enough in the summer and warm enough in the winter. I will be reading everything on this site! I am a definite researcher. Thanks so much for all the help!! :ya
