Hmmm..... One thing that I wish I knew before owning chickens is doing more research on a breed before getting them.... One time when I got Sapphire gem chicks I didn't know that they were auto-sexed (meaning that u can tell the gender by the feather color from the day they are born) and Tractor Supply sorted the light colored ones with the dark ones, and we ended up with a roo. I love him though.
If you want auto-sexed breeds where u can tell the gender, check out some of these breeds;

black sexlink
Sapphire gem
new hampshire red
Rhode island red
cream legbar
bielefelder
55 flowery hen

If you don't want any roos, this is a great way to get all pullets without waiting for the first crow!

Welcome. To add to the list of advice, a lot of secure space in both the coop and run will solve many issues. If you think it may be too big - go bigger. By secure, I mean 1/2 inch hardware cloth anywhere that a predator could get in - day or night.
