I love it. You would have fooled me about not being a carpenter!

I do Have Metal mess to use as a vent on each end ( Dont plan on adding anything Birds in till the Spring ), I also have the windows I could crack.

The Locks all have Very Snug Pins in them so I don't think anything can get in.

The Roost are about 12 Inch apart, The one that is real close isn't screwed down yet it is just resting there.
And the Wood is Prob about 2 Inch think and they are very hard I don't think Ill Have a problem with them breaking.

I Will prob use Wood Chips that I can get for free from the mill up the road.

I am not sure what i will use to preserve the wood Ill Prob let it age a bit and a lot of the old timers said that Pine and Hemlock will last a very long time untreated So I may never treat, We have many old barns here that are in great shape.

Not sure what to do about keeping them off the top of the nesting boxes, I have that swing down Window cover that Ill shut when I open up the windows, SO I cant put anything per meant on top of the nesting boxes.

How do the nesting boxes look? They are about 12x12 and I have eight of them Prob more then I need.

Thanks for all the kind words.

The fox who's watching you build has implanted this thought into your head by direct telepathy. He's counting on you to believe it.

Not sure what to do about keeping them off the top of the nesting boxes,

How about a smooth surface which will easily wipe or brush clean every few days? Large poop board, tray of sand? I bet the birds will adore that spot to relax and look out the window. Only problem might be heaps of poop for them to step in, and poo will get into the nest boxes unless you make a pretty awning (or extend the top like a countertop so their poop won't fall onto the nestbox ledges) to protect the nestboxes from falling poop. But it looks lovingly planned, to me. Like you want your birds to be happy there!

Thanks for all the kind words.

Whatever you do for a living, I bet you could fall back on this for income. Its a really, really nice job, in so many ways!

Joe.G :

The coop is 6X8 with about 8 ft ceilings, I built it out of Rough Cut Pine for the Boards and Hemlock for the Batten, There is about three foot of space under the coop so the Chickens can come out of coop, I may build a bigger run but my plan is to allow them to free range, I live in farm country and have plenty of land.

I Plane to get 2 Guinea Hens, 1 Rooster and 9 Chickens of assorted kinds. I am new to this. I have a Rabbit Hutch Built for two rabbits off the front, I have a removable divider if they get a long they can be together if not they will be in there own area. I am not a carpenter I just got a pile of Lumber and started building. I have about $600.00 Dollars into it.

Yes that's what I've been doing but I'm trying sand in the run, and it is far less dusty. Some of my birds are Silkies and the woodchips stick and poke sometimes, so I'll be trying sand up on the shelf, soon.

Having chicken poop on a shelf is kind of like a treat, if you're a gardener. I just scoop it into a big bucket and turn it into my compost heap. My flowers are

growing like they're on rocket fuel. I bet you'll have a ton of fun with this coop of yours!

canesisters That is odd, I posted the Pic's so the Pic it self shows up in the thread instead of a link.
