Hi everyone! I'm new to backyard chickens- we're just now getting a coop this weekend although we've been planning and reading about backyard chickens since last summer. Our local Big R is now selling chicks but we can't get them until after we get back from a vacation on March 23rd. How long do stores typically sell chicks for?

My local chick selling place will take your name and number and reserve chicks for you, for the time you want them.

Maybe call them and ask if they will do the same? If they will reserve chicks for you, you can ask if new chicks are arriving the week that you want them, OR if they will keep them for you (for an extra charge of course) until you are ready for them.

Mine just have em' for a week or so. They sell out fast. Especially if there's a show going on!

Our local stores will have them until it gets too hot to ship them in.

I'm sure they will wave plenty for Easter.
