My new dear friend, there is a term we use. It's called chicken math. It's real, and there is no way around it! I'm just saying that crowded birds will be unhappy ones. Trust me, I did everything wrong at first!

Well I guess I don't understand chicken math yet, just math, which is all I have to work with since I am new to this. Thanks for the input. Coop is what it is. If I need to reduce the number of birds I will. I just want happy, healthy chickens and good eggs.

Your off to a great start I can tell by the effort your putting into the coop the baby’s will be well taken care of

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
If you make you run as predator-proof as your coop, your coop size is fine.
However, I strongly recommend that you increase your run size to something closer to 15 or more sq ft per bird and put a solid roof on it if possible.
Will your run be walk-in style? You need to be able to easily access all parts of the run.

The run will be walk in and also have a roof. I am also building a removable panel on the side of the coop for cleanout and I can access the inside from there also. I can't make it any bigger. I may have to reduce the number of birds if I have issues.

howdy from SE Missouri. Welcome to the flock. For me, chicken math means you start out with the number of birds you think you want/ need, but then something happens in your brain (SNAP!) and you realize you need new breeds, new colors, ones that lay different colored eggs, or more exotic or rarer breeds or you decide to try hatching your own ...or... or... and suddenly there you are building a bigger coop or transforming a shed or...or.. or! You'll see, chicken math is a real affliction and I think we all suffer from it!
