New (unusual) Button Quail Chick

Baby is officially 2 weeks old today (I think)! So I thought I'd add some more photos.

Here are most of the babies with their Grandmother, Matilda (who is a great baby sitter but a great one for hatching only one chick at a time)!

At the moment it looks like the wild chicks do, just a much lighter shade of brown so it will be interesting to see how it ends up. The cinnamons start out so light and end up very dark so only time will tell.

The other three like this are a week old today and have just been moved to a proper cage with their two siblings. Three immediately squeezed out the bars (climbing up the vertical plastic sides of the deep base that's on the cage :barnie) and were running round the house! So that was fun. The cage sides are now wrapped in a sheet. But surely they can't all be girls so hopefully I'll be able to see what a hen and cock look like. :fl

Is Matilda the color you call caramel? She's very pretty.

Yes, and so far I've hatched two that were her colour (though the little week old one makes three). The first two turned out to be girls. I've never seen a boy pictured (and it's rare enough to find a photo of a female). On an Australian forum they were referring to a sex linked cinnamon and I was wondering if they meant this colour.

It is a very pretty colour and Matilda is a friendly girl. Her mate, a silver, is always waiting inside the aviary door for me and generally needs to be nudged out of the way so I can get in. He likes pecking my feet too.

Pretty cool! Btw guys my male button has been doing this weird thing????? Hes been buffing his feathers out and like doing this weird thing with his wings so he makes like a ball?? is this is mating dance??

Sure sounds like it. Does he drop his shoulders down a bit and run in little bursts in front of a lady friend? I love how affectionate they can be with each other.

are cot colors similar to buttons? i have a cot that is a strange color and cant put a name to

could you help me identify it?

I can try but you guys have more colours there than we do here. Someone else might have some idea too so post away. :)

I had two gorgeous, odd coloured male cots that were golden but their chests were heavily spotted with gold and red. Damn rats got them!:hitThey were so pretty.
