NEW UPDATE! More Pictures Added! PG 4

Woke up this morning, first thing I did was check on my babies, the little one in the ring had

slid down inside the ring with his feet sliding out the bottom, and had splayed legs. Treated it,

and now he's in the brooder. He can hold his head up, but still cannot get his feet under him...

Is that ok? The other baby is just to weak, and I do not think he even has a chance..

So my Qs for today

~

-Is it ok he's still not on his feet, or trying to lift himself?

-Theres still a tiny little hole in his tummy where the yolk ubsorbed. Is that oK?

-Is it OK to give the chick in the brooder a couple drops of water with sugar in it?

When I pulled him out of the egg, I left some membrane hanging behind him because

the umbilical was attached to it. I cut it today, as I couldn't fix his legs with it in my way,

and it was dried up anyways. The little fellow has his ways of getting around the brooder.

q1: I never had to deal with splayed leg yet so i am not sure. if he shows signs of life i would defietely keep working on him

q2: tiny hole is fine. will go away eventually

q3 YES, excellent idea. if you have electrolytes use those in the water. also, use boiled egg yolk, mush it up a little bit with water and offer them that. sometimes it helps to put a little bit on their beak first so they get the idea it is edible

q4: had the same thing happen. as long as it is dried up should be fine.

me need ice now. keep us updated

Thanks, got a splint on his legs.

He still can't walk, but he tries so hard.

He pecked some boiled egg yolk off of my finger earlier. He got a couple mouth fulls,

so I'll just offer him a bit every hour or so, since he's not eating alot at a time. He

drank some sugar water twice today. I have a pack of electrolytes, but it's for over 120 gallons,

and it gives absolutely NO instructions on how to mix just a little bit.

He's better than yesterday, but hes just so weak. He'll hop around a bit, then falls asleep.

I put a brooder with 9 chicks next to him so maybe he won't feel so lonely. He snuggles to

my hand when I pet him

I hope your finger gets well! That sounds painful!

He started drinking and eating on his own today!

Since hes got the splint on his legs, I still just offer water to him every now and then and take it away

when I'm not there, because I don't want him to fall in it. He usually only eats if I hold some boiled egg

up to his face.. Improvment though!

I put my other nine chicks next to him so he won't feel so lonely

He seems to be getting stronger

He's really happy about having boiled eggs, and still wil take a drink or two on his own.

I noticed one of his toes looks crooked, will that effect anything? It seems to bend under

his foot somtimes.

mine do that occasionally but eventually everything get's "straightened out". If not there are some great ideas here on how to make a little foot for him to get his toe where it belongs

Keep feeding that egg yolk, it will give him lots of energy. has he tried to touch his chick starter food yet?
