LATEST EDiT ~

One chick died in the shell, and he was the most active and talkative one I had, so I
decided in the situation, their best chance of survival would be if I helped the out of

the egg. I used sterile tools, and boiled water cooled down to room temp. to pick the

shell away, and moisten the membrane as I went. I stopped every 15 minutes and put them

back in the 'bator for about a hour, to warm up and maybe build some strength up. I finally got

all the shell and most the membrane to where the bottom of the egg was left, and I was going

to let the baby kick out but I ended up taking that off to. Now they are both out, one so weak

it is not talking much, or moving, and the other is chirping away, and rolling my eggs around

like marbles, but still not holding his head up.

So my Qs ~

- Is it OK that the one is still not holding his head up? He was out of the shell by 12:00 this morning.

- The weaker chick's foot keeps shaking like crazy, and I have no idea WHY. I'll upload a vid of his feet
to youtube in a little while..

- Is this papertowel ring OK for the chick to be in? It helps him hold his head up a bit...

My hen hatched 3 beautiful chicks a few days ago, today we we're going to throw

the remaining eggs out, but me being my weird self had to do an eggtopsy,

because they we're such active little boogers early on in incubation, and I

couldn't understand why they didn't hatch with the others. Well I opened the

egg at the air sac to find a shrink wrapped chick, who had made a pip through

the membrane, and was taking very very slow, faint gasps of air. The

hen has not been setting on the eggs at night, and it's been getting down

in the 30 s at night... Is this chick dead but nerves and stuff are still going?

Is there any hope? We put him in my incubator wrapped in a warm damp

paper towel, he's not bleeding nor does he have any injury, but he seems

to be still alive.

The Chick on the right is the one who is now chirping. I am almost for sure the one on the
left is no longer alive.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

fingers crossed for the little fellow.
I had a similar experience going through the eggs that didn't had during incubation.
upon checking the "dead" eggs, I found a barely alive chick and took him out of the egg.
He came around VERY slowly but lived and thrived none the less.

Thankyou so much Carolyn.

I sure hope he makes it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

He's talkative, I can tell you that much

It's a long shot but if he/she has pipped you could help it out of the shell the rest of the way especially if the membrane is too tough for it to get through

Got another live one now, about to burry him thinking he was dead

but then his head jerked back when I touched his beak.

Guess I can't tell if

ANY of these babies are dead...Well, they're all going in the bator for a few days.

Time to worry somemore!

Well I would, but from my last experience with helping

a baby out, I'm terrified of helping them. Plus he's still got got veins

running everywhere, so if I had to help I'd have to wait a while

anyways. I think I'm just going to let nature take it's course with these babies..

If they're meant to be, they'll make it.
