New updated pics of my flock (lots of pics)

They look great!
I wish we had all that open land!
We have nothing but trees here..

Ridgefire,

I am a former Michigander (and NMU grad) and now living in a place with even more brutal winters. I have an up and coming cockerel who will grow a large comb. He's a black giant. I am going to make a 'comb blanket' out of some felt with a little drawstring to kind of snug it on around the base of the comb. I have not done this before but it is worth a try.

I will also make some sort of holder to keep his wattles from getting in the water buckt when he drinks to prevent them from freezing too.

While having their combs freeze off doesn't matter much to the bird I think they look better with it!

I am a bit worried about frost bite this winter with him. His comb is just so big and I live in Northern Michigan.

Hello fellow Michigander! Look at Cuda's website: http://www.stevenspoultryfarm.com/ (he is a BYC member.) His birds are beautiful and healthy ( I have a couple of them) and he shows on the site how to prevent frostbite by dubbing. Look under "chicken care". I have to say I have been hesitant to try it but with a beautiful comb like that, I think I would do it.
