New Year Block swap

I think red thread would look really good.

I am horrible about the "quilting" part so of no use to you. I almost always "quilt" before assembly, when the pieces are smaller and more manageable.

My latest rag jean quilt is from yard sales and give a ways.

Ok ladies I need your fast help, I have not finished too many quilts the usual way I finish them is stitch in the ditch but this quilt I don't want to stitch in the ditch, so would you recommend stitching around each square a 1/4 inch on the inside or do the diagonal lines that intersect and make the diamonds you know what I mean I hope,

Oh my, that quilt is super cute! Are you hand or machine quilting? Either way an all over pattern with curves would be nice. It would break up the angles and help move the eye across the quilt. I'm thinking of a clamshell or a fan. If you google those I'm sure you'll be able to see some examples. I've used round things as patterns to mark my quilts. Red thread would be darling!

I agree on red thread, & the 1/4 inside the blocks would be lots faster than trying to learn fans or whatever. The rounded stuff would look very nice, but if you need it fast then likely that isn't your best option on this one.

I also agree about the quilts w/ character (imperfections) , it is part of why I tend to stick to scrappy looks & folk art type looks, I feel like the imperfections are less of a problem that way, but overall I also just don't get so worked up about it b/c I feel like if everything were 100% spot on perfect like it was made in a machine mold rather than by hand, well what is the point of that exactly? I feel like I do the best I can, and that will create a lovely handmade item which will have all the little details of charming places where the fact it was made by a person will be apparent.

I also favor function/utility and I'd rather what I make get used than put in a box or even hung on the wall. An example was the 1st quilt I ever made was a baby quilt, and it was pretty rough, but functional. When the couple I made it for came to town for a visit & had a much fancier quilt that they pulled out for photo ops w/ the godparents they looked at me very sheepishly and promised to send me a pic. of the toddler w/ the quilt I made (I like a pic. of gift quilts in use for my quilt scrapbook). They then went on to say that the quilt I made was the everyday favorite blanket & they were rueful for not having fit it into the car on the trip as the toddler had cried for it after they left. So I'd rather have made the imperfect quilt the child cries for and which gets stained and worn out, than the one that gets pulled out of a plastic case for a fancy picture and never touched again.

My girls have beautiful I-spy quilts on their beds made by grandma, they love them..but the one that gets dragged out for sunday morning tele or sleepovers is the one I made and backed with polar fleece.. simple but snuggly.
You know youll have to post another photo once youre done ! ;)

To put in my two peneth worth....... I would quilt across the diagonals but using a decorative stitch that will hide a multitude of sins. Look what I've done with the blue and yellow blocks, Mary let me take the yellowist and blueist as I need them for special present.

Oh so pretty!!!!

@ fenrosie I love it so pretty need to get some of my blocks put together

here is my finished quilt, I did stitch in the ditch since that is what I know, will have to try something different on the next one, I made a mistake on the 1/4 inside the blocks and decided to give up after I picked out the thread.

I hope who ever gets it likes it, this is the fastest quilt in history I think, I picked up this fabric on friday and started after dinner on friday and 2 am I'm done in more ways than one, stick a fork in me

. This is for the gift swap tonight after the play and dinner at my Church, yes I'm in the play too. This was a last minute idea of mine I was going to go and buy something but I just couldn't find anything that really grabbed me. What is strange we have older grandma's and great grandma's and none of them sew, crochet or any of the kind now for a country church I find that really strange, they do can their garden goods. Oh and I make these coasters to go with the quilt. I hope there is a good fight, no just kidding

I added the coasters because this quilt will see the inside of a closet I'm sure when the holidays are over.

Don't look at my dirty ironing board cover my cat jumped on it when she came inside course it was raining,
