I have 23 Black Austrolorp eggs in the incubator, today is day 20 and 3 have hatched out, 4 more are pipped. I'll always be able to remember how old they are now!

My update: I now have 20 chicks, out of 23 set for hatching and 30 initially set 21 days ago. Following the advice of the old-timers on here to leave the chicks in the bator and don't disturb things, I haven't touched it at all and the stragglers seem to be making it to the finish line with no problem. We have a sopping-wet brand new chick struggling around among the chaos in there as I write. I'm going to transfer them all to the brooder late tomorrow morning.

This morning I transferred the chicks from the incubator to the brooder. The incubator was a chaotic mess of downy chicks running around, broken shells and hatching debris, and I missed that a chick was still in the middle of the hatching process. I did an emergency intervention on the bathroom floor with tweezers, washcloths and a syringe filled with warm water to try to help extricate the poor little thing from its dried-out membrane. I think I managed to save it but only time will tell.

I'm on day 23 and 10 of the 26 hatched. I am happy about the little fuzzy butts but am so sad about the ones that didn't hatch. I saw movement in them when I moved them, I did everything as instructed. I moved chickies yesterday morning but I had 3 more hatch after I moved the other ones. The temp is right, the humidity is right. So why didn't they hatch? I still have the last three that was born and the other eggs still in the incubator. Hoping by some little miracle that the other eggs will hatch. Only 2 of the welsummers hatched, 5 of the cochins and 2 of my own.

ok I told myself I wasn't going to sweat this out no matter what was or was NOT happening, but now that I'd let myelf start to get excited I'm thinking maybe it's going to just be a great big fall here. So far no activitie since yesterday when I believe I'd seen 1 of the eggs rock to & fro.... K sera sera right? I suppose it is day 20 & I still have some time but.........

We had a surprise hatch, I had given up on this broody little hen, since she has been on these eggs since 12/1, but lo and behold! We are trying to find a good name.....
