New Year's Resolutions for 2026

Th
I don't know how I managed to do it, but I managed to keep my biggest chicken resolution this year ... so I'm gonna repeat it for 2026: NO NET GAIN!
I resolve to end the year with the same number of (or fewer) chickens than I started out with. We'll see how that pans out this time ...
Thats a good idea! I will try that for next year!

I try to stay under 20, but even that's too many. With a limited market for really tiny eggs (mostly Nankin bantams) I have to get creative with too many extras. My current count is 16. With a few senior (retired or semi-retired) hens and my two roosters, that seems to be working, for now.
Is there some church, non profit or some type of shelter that could use the eggs? I know they are small, but sometimes it could be just the little bit of food someone might need.

Absolutely! This one's for you, Debbie! :bow

You know, I'm starting to think there are a lot of people like this. Of course it feels like crap when it's family, even though I'm sure it's not personal. I took a similar route and just don't bother sharing anymore. So you're not alone. :hugs

BUT, my mental health has improved tenfold!
Totally understandable and you have to do what you have to do. Even if you talked to the family members directly, sometimes even that doesn't work. Just put your foot down and stick to ur rules and boundaries you have set. If they choose to follow what you set, then awesome. If not, then that's their choice, but you still have your boundaries/ rules in place. If they are not respectful of that, then sadly, sometimes it's just what it is. Ultimately they make that choice and not for the better. You can only do so much. Don't for once feel guilty about your decisions or have them manipulate you to changing ur rules/ boundaries either. I know, it's hard. Just stick with it though.

Boundaries has been the key change for me, and honestly, mostly my own boundaries. I no longer put myself in situations where I'm setting myself up to be disappointed or hurt. It's a learning curve for someone that (occasionally) craves connection with other people, but the end result has been net positive. :)

Here's to continuing on with boundaries in 2026!

Indirectly, yes. I'm not certified to distribute eggs, so I send baked goods to our church pantry. Works for me!
