New York State dog damage to chicken and coop run

Hey all,

My chickens, run and myself faced the neighbors dog today. All the chickens are safe, luckiy, but the fenced in run is destroyed. Does anyone know or can direct me to where I can find information on where to procede? If this happens again and the dog injures or kills on of my chickens what can I do? My fence is completely destroyed, is the a way to have them be responsible for any damages? These are not friendly neighbors and going on the door won't get me anywhere (I have tried in the past when the dogs broke through the fence). Any help is greatly apprieciated. I just really don't know where to go from where I am now, with a useless run and an aggressive dog. Thank you!

I would file a police report about the damaged property. And report the aggressive/dangerous animal. Let the authorities deal with it.

Dogs unleashed, breaking fences, harassing livestock and otherwise spreading hate and discontent need to be dealt with sternly. For some that's involving police/dog catchers that levy fines and generally increase the strained relations of some neighbors. For others offended by menacing dogs it's a quiet mysterious disappearance of a poorly trained dog. Your well in your rights do do either. Some municipalities will work with you for gaining repairs for damage from dog owners, others not so helpful and rely on small claims courts. It really depends on where you live and how they operate.

I tend to deal with things myself. Talk to neighbors once and if that doesn't go anywhere deal with the problem quietly. In all honesty I've never had to dispatch a dog as the talk or electric fencing does the job. Would not have a problem putting down an aggressive animal that forced it's way past my electric though.
