New York

Hi ya FisherMom or should I say neighbor! Higbies and CountryMax should have chicks soon. Yeah, too cold to think about it right now though. Ordered some quail eggs from Pop57 yesterday to get my fix. They're small enough to over winter in the basement until spring comes and the machine guns, concertina wire and landminds are installed to keep out the varmits. Coyotes have been running wild lately around here in large numbers. Nice to meet ya!

Coyotes! wow. I have been lucky so far. I have only seen one coyote in my life, and it was not close to home. Where is CountryMax?

We have lots of Coyotes at my house as well. I am going to try to call them in this weekend and shoot a few. last week they were right at my back door, I wasn't ready for them. i am now.

wow chicks... I guess that I am lucky so far! I know that they are around. DO they hunt in the day time too?

There's a CountryMax up on Ridge near Trimmer just west of Spencerport. They have lots of critters, feed, and equipment. Closer for me than Higbies.

Yep, coyotes started rutting last week & they've been thicker than thieves since then. They have the cat, aka four legged, furry freeloader, so riled up that she has been sleeping on top of the kitchen cabinets. I've gone out to check the rabbits a few times when the howling gets too close and have seen a few dart into the shadows near the creek. They might sniff around but I've never really had a problem with the coyotes. I like to listen to them 'sing' at night. It's the raccoons that are the real trouble makers.

Checking in from Lockport NY- 20 minutes north of Buffalo.

Hey Joe! We like to pronounce it Ra- cha-cha!

calling out to you all from spencer NY, soputh of Ithaca. We too have coy-dogs close by and they stay away from our place since my son had to take up shooting at them to keep them at bay.
I also have a few very large and loud dogs that do the trick too.
My hickens outside have been untouched so far from other critters and are wintering very well - only one or two trips to the chicken-hospital inside. lots of baby's in the basement from recent hatches and some in the bators....we are in full incubating and hatching mode this month and next then we kick back and enjoy 'em.

What breeds do those of you in NY raise? Are they hatchery or breeder strains?

I currently have SLW, and several red layers (NHR, RR, RSL) this spring i am adding Orpingtons both buff and black. Hopefully some turkeys as well.

I've been hearing the coydogs a lot lately too. If you have too many babies in your basement I'm sure I know someone who could take them (ME ME ME ME
